The Chinese Community Association will be hosting its 11th Annual Golf Tournament, May 18, 2013.  This fundraiser has provided  support for student scholarships, monthly senior lunches, and helps with the maintenance of the Chinese Community Center.  If you would like to sponsor a hole, contact John Wong at toywong53@gmail.com.  Sign up to play and see if you can defeat the reigning 2012 tournament winners, MK Choi, Theo Choi, Duncan Fung, and James Wu.

The Chinese Community Association of Hampton Roads began celebrating the Year of the Snake today with performances in Newport News at Port Arthur restaurant and for the Peninsula Chinese Cultural Association at Buffet City. The Lion Dancers did an awesome job to the delight of all  who were in attendance. The Lion Dance brought well wishes and good luck to those who gave red envelopes. We will celebrate New Years at the Chinese Community Center Feb. 17, 2013 with additional performances at Boardwok restaurant , Portsmouth Children Museum, and for the Hampton Roads Families with Chinese Children. Again thanks to all the work of the Lion Dancers and their parents. If you are interested in joining the Lion Dance group, please contact us through ccahr.org.

The Chinese Community Association of Hampton Roads held its 31st Annual Thanksgiving celebration on Nov. 18. 2012.. It was a wonderful time to share delicious food and appreciate all the things we should be thankful for; such as family, friends, and great volunteers. A big thanks to Wayne & Margie for organizing a great menu for all to enjoy. We also need to recognize Tony Eng, Benny Wong, Bobby & Erica, May Lee, and Betty Kue for helping supply the manpower. Thanks also to our young servers; Kevin, Robby, Annie, and Gary for serving the food to the appreciative crowd. Thanks to all those who donated prizes for the raffle, we made over $300 that will go to supporting student scholarships and Center activities. We are planning the Chinese New Year celebration for next year , hope to see you there!

The Wong Family Reunion was held on June 16, 2012. It was a wonderful time to remember the past and welcome future generations. Harry Wong Din and Johnson Wong were both honored for their service during World War 2 with acclaim from their families and proclamations from Senator Warner of Virginia. The food was from the past : chicken chow mein, pig feet, “small smoke”, fried rice etc. There was a wonderful video of the family history in China and America. If you are interested in renting the Community center for a special occasion, contact any officer or call the Center. You will have full access to the kitchen and audiovisual equipment.

We would like to thank all the volunteers for their help on the busiest night of OpSail/Harborfest. It was a lot of fun for all and the fireworks was great. All the tips and proceeds from Fest events will support senior citizen monthly lunches and local charities in the area. We have one last date to work at the July 4 celebration at Town Point park. The 10th Annual CCA Golf Tournament was held at Sleepy Hole Golf Course on a beautiful day.  Thanks to all the sponsors and the wonderful players who again made this tournament a success. Ming Mui and his team defended their first place position from last year and Christina Wong’s team won a prize for their determination and participation. Thanks to President Gary Mah for supplying drinks and snacks throughout the day, Ann for registration and awarding door prizes, and George Wong for pictures of this year’s event. Hope to see you again next year!

The Chinese Community Association of Hampton Roads celebrated Chinese New Year by performing the Chinese Lion Dance at selected locations this year in Hampton Roads. We would like to thank all those who participated and  continued  this long held tradition for the Chinese Community. We welcomed some new Lion Dance performers to the team and say good bye to those graduating seniors. All donations have been used to support student scholarships and CCA activities, If you would like to join and help continue this tradition please call the Community Center or contact any CCA officer.

The Chinese Community Association of Hampton Roads will be hosting its annual golf fundraiser. It will be held again at the historic and beautiful  Sleepy Hole Golf Course in Suffolk, Virginia. Our tournament format will be four – person best ball. Women players are welcomed. Our tournament will be post-flighted which means every team has a chance to win. Entry fee $75 includes 18 holes of golf w/cart, custom cart sign, and a deli lunch. Plus you have a chance to win door prizes with the purchase of 3 mulligans which we all need, some more than others! Please join us for the day and enjoy the golf and fellowship. Proceeds from this tournament will benefit student scholarships and Red Cross Disaster Relief .
