The CCA celebrated it’s 28th Annual Chinese New Year on Feb. 1, 2004. We wish to thank Wayne & Margie Leung, May & Eddie Lee, #4, Jennie Lee, and Mrs. Sun Tat Wong for their tremendous effort in providing a delicious 9 course meal.

Everyone was delighted by the display of music and dance by the Tidewater Chinese school. The Lion Dance brought great fortune to the celebrants. Dr. James Chau & Bobby Lee were the emcees for the raffle. The Grand prize winner was Mark Slaughter. He won a 20” television. Over $700 in Raffle tickets were sold.

During the celebration, three outstanding, graduating seniors were recognized for their dedication to academics and community service. Selena Chu, Granby High School, was named the Grand Prize Scholarship winner and was awarded a $500 scholarship. Bryan Lin & Megan Wong, students at Tallwood High School, were selected as runners-up. They each were awarded $250 scholarships. Our congratulations!

In Memorial, 1923-2004

The CCA would like to remember a important member of our community. Edward Fon Lee passed away on Feb. 24, 2004. He was born in Canton, China and served in the U.S. Army during WW11. He received a Distinguished Unit Citation with Oak Leaf Cluster. After the war he came to Norfolk and worked with his Uncle George Poy.

Eventually, he became a working partner at Sai Gai Restaurant at Wards Corner. Mr. Lee with the support of his wife May opened their own business Dragon Gate.

During his retirement, Mr. Lee enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing Mah Jong. Mr Lee spent many weekends preparing dinners for Sevamp Luncheons, Thanksgiving and Chinese New Year.

We will always remember Eddie for his big heart and smile that greeted everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife, May Wong Lee; a brother in Montreal, Canada, two daughters, Patricia L. Wong and husband Haymond of Portsmouth, Jeannette Lee and husband Michael Gierlach of Raleigh, N.C.; four grand - children, Daniel, Christina, Erica, Andrea; four sister-in-laws and four brother-in-laws.
