2005 Lion Dance

The 2005 edition of the CCA Lion Dance completed it’s 27th year. This fine group was composed of 22 dancers led by Perry Lee. Their fine effort netted the community $3,297. This brings the total amount in lucky money in 27 years to $109,538.99!

Our Lion danced in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Newport News, Williamsburg and Chesapeake. Familiar patrons included:

Feb. 5 - Portsmouth Children’s Museum for two performances.

Feb. 11, 12 - Boardwok Rest. for two performances, Imperial Palace for two performances, Grace Foods, Port Arthur, Ling Nam, the Chinese Pagoda, and Ho Ho Restaurant.

Feb. 18 - Clara Byrd Baker Elementary School.

Our eternal thanks to the following restaurants for feeding our hungry Lions: China Garden Portsmouth, Ling Nam, Boardwok, HoHo Rest. Chesapeak and Wayne Leung at The Community Center.

Thanks to Perry Lee for taking the lead in organizing our Lions for each dance and to So & Scott Dillingham, and Ann & John Wong for supervising our young Lions.

After a fire consumed our three Lion heads & drum, the 2005 Lion Dance was threatened. Wing K. Lee made a trip New York to pick up a new Lion head, Scott Dillingham designed and made several sets of drum sticks, and George Wong constructed new carts for the drum and cymbal. A special thanks to these individuals for their efforts.

Our thanks to May Lee, Lillian Barbo, Betty Kue, Jennie Lee, Mrs. Sun Tat Wong, Mrs. Fan Wong and #4 for preparing the dim sum and appetizers.

Our appreciation also goes to our volunteers who set up the banquet hall and who served our meal. ( David Moy, Yan Huang, So Ng, Ricky Maldonado, Melissa Wong, Patsy Wong, Celina Wong, and Scott Dillingham ).

Congratulations to John Wong, Jerry Ng, Bobby Lee, and George Wong for moderating a fun filled day. Our raffle raised $844 and the big winner of a color T.V. was Tommy & Jeanine Wong! Our Lion Dancers brought great fortune to those attending and they were rewarded as they gathered $282 in lucky money.
